I posted a link to the weather bureau web page that gives the periodic
temperatures around the time of your post. The tennis is in the centre
of Melbourne, near where the temps were recorded. If you think the
bureau is wrong then I suggest you get onto them.

But they aren't heat traps any more now than they have been in the
past. It is not suddenly too hot at 26 (or 29) degrees now when it
hasn't been in the past.

But it won't be any hotter on the court than it is any other time when
the air temp. is 29 degrees. These have never been considered brutal
conditions in the past, whatever the court thermometer says. The
players are not squashed against the surface of the court. It's no big
deal.

According to the ESPN crew, it's about 53 on court.

Actually it's about 29. People are getting too worked up over the
temperature. It doesn't even qualify as a hot day yet, but it probably
will in the next couple of hours.

I don't know where you live - on top of a mountain somewhere (if we had any)?
At my place it is 35C. And it is notorious that the enclosed courts are
heat traps.

australians consider it part of the "amusement".
