If Del Potro were as awful as everybody's saying here, how did he play
for 4 hours at last year's USO
with Murray a round before Murray beat Nadal?

Hint, newbies: there's a thing called *match-ups* in tennis

Sure. I have seen Del Potro playing better, but in fact I don't think he
has played that well in this tournament. He didn't play any worse
against Federer than he did against Cilic. But Federer played amazing -
that is not debatable. Probably the best he has played since AO 2007.

In the first two sets Roger was on fire and Del Potro with his mobility
issues suffered. There was really not much he could do with the skill
set he possess. I was kind of surprised by Del Potros way of beginning
the third set. Because he was broken mostly because of his own errors in
that first game. I thought in the second set that he just were waiting
for a third set. But apparently he was waiting for a shower instead.

PS.

I am waiting for a shower too from Giovanna. A golden one. Her showers
are totally breathtaking.

Nadal is too good for Fed on clay. Although that matchup on clay is
more like Fed v. Roddick on fast courts, in that it *can* be a
mismatch. With Porto still lacking a big serve, it's almost an
automatic mismatch if Fed really
wants to win.

I guess that you feel that Federer played his best at 2008 FO final then? I
guess Nadal was just way way way way way too good for Federer.

Yes, Fed played well and started taking Porto's shots early and
jerking him around.

Because Porto's 6'6 and has limited (though not bad) mobility, he
can't cope with that. Throw in the fact
that he still has major work to do on his serve and it's not
surprising the score was lopsided.

I didn't like seeing him get so demoralized though. When Chang would
get waxed by Sampras, he'd still be out there pumping his fists.

He was awful after the first few games of 2nd set. He just totally
lost it.

True and there is something else called "when Roger's game clicks"

Yes - this basic concept is lost on many people around here

Hint: He did not play well today, in fact he was awful.
