Djokovic seemed to play pretty well, I was impressed given his weak showing
at Sydney. Baghdatis' first serve and forehand weren't clicking at all, but he fought
like a madman to take set 3 but kept missing his few chances...

It's the same thing like it was last year, maybe it was even the same round.

Federer plays a long 5 setter so Bagman has to play a night match,
litteraly.

No. The Federer match finished on time, and the night session started on
schedule.

same court but it was nothing to do with federer - he finished at 7.
dokic was due on court at 7.30 - took over 3 hours so with knock-ups
etc. bag/djok couldn't start before 11

But they have to get the day session crowd out and get the night
session crowd in. If the day session ends at 7, that could be a delay
for the night session. I think there was a slight delay.

it's a different court than Federer's, right?

the problem was the dokic match took over 3 hours - so bag/djok
couldn't start before 11pm. seems it's always ladies first - maybe out
of politeness but more likely noone would stick around after midnight
to watch the kind of rubbish the wta throws up

More that they expect the women's matches to be shorter. You can hardly
fault them, though, for putting Dokic, the only remaining Australian
player, on the night program. A lot of people don't stick around after
midnight for men's matches either, not even at the US Open, where the
subway runs all night.

The thing is if you buy a ticket for the night session, that's only
two matches. It is a waste if you don't even watch both of them
completely. Although at AO 2004 the only time we had tickets for the
night session it was Federer - Hewitt, and then a doubles match. And
we had a day trip to Sydney the next day, wake up at 4.45 am or
something, so I didn't stay for the doubles match.

Sure. But they have to schedule at least two, to ensure that there's
something for people to see if someone gets injured warming up for the
first one (worst case).

ESPN's graphic just showed that the great Hewitt-Baghdatis match ended
at 4:34 a.m.
