Clijsters is ahead of Sanchez, Pierce, Davenport, Austin, Mandlikova
all who won more slams than her. Sharapova is also in the top 10. I
wouldnt have expected that.

Steffi Graf, Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors are practically tied for the
top spot. The difference is very small.

Of course not they couldn't have the numbers, because they played in
an era, that was strong beyond imagination. Most of the list of your
OP played exactly in that very golden era. This is no accident!

I cannot be as brave as you touting a 2nd tier champion like Sampras
as the GOAT. Sorry!

I never hated Sampras. But I found him immensely boring. Becker had a
lot more variety than the ace monster Sampras.

wow, you liked Becker but hate Sampras? They played very similar
games.

This list does make a strong claim that Becker is possibly greater
than or equal to Agassi. Becker won 6 slams + 3 YEC, Agassi won 8
slams + 1 YEC. So they are about equal anyway, if you think about it.

I agree. Connors and Lendl played a full career and they are still
just one percent less than him. I say all the three are about equal
when it comes to percentages. Even McEnroe is not that far behind. And
so is Federer.

He is at 7th on this list dude. And this is open era only and it does
not include Rosewall and Laver who won quite a bit of slams. And what
about pre open era greats like Budge, Tilden, Gonzales etc?

Becker was a good player, I liked him against almost everyone except
Lendl. I was also a big fan of Michael Stich. They had attacking
tennis and style and also belonged to the same country as my favorite
player ever - Steffi Graf. But I would never tout Becker and Michael
Stich as GOAT. It is beyond silly, they do not have the numbers, nor
were they are dominating #1s for a long time like most GOATs are.

Correct. As goes for other Top 10s: Becker, Edberg and the first half
of Agassi and Sampras. Furthermore it shows that Becker is a serious
GOAT candidate.

Yup -- that's why I'm not quite as impressed with Borg's percentages
as some people are. If he had hung in there till he was 32 or so, and
maybe won a couple more slams along the way, IMO his career
achievements would be more impressive, even though the inevitable
losses would have driven his winning percentage down.

I believe that. Evert was amazing.

I don't think Fed will end up with a lower percentage than Sampras
though. The first 4 Borg/Connors/McEnroe/Lendl were all rivals. This
shows how tough the 80s was.

Are you on crack?

This is one of the most meanigless piece of stat one could lift.

Percentages are for stuff like free throws in basketball and similar
comparisons. Best server, etc.

It's perverse to apply it on tennis in general.

Evert never lost at either Wightman or Fed cups. According to her
websit, she had a .900 winning percentage (1,309-146) , the best in
pro tennis history, male or female.

I don't know her record, only Graf's.

You have to wait until the career is over. As you can see with Fed,
losses pile up faster at the end.

Are you saying Evert never played Fed Cup? Why not add her results as
well?

Graf had 902 wins and 115 losses (FC & Olympics included, qualies
excluded).
Never believe wikipedia.
