Subject: Could Nadal pass Sampras?
If he is healthy, he could well pass Sampras. Six slams at 22yrs old!

There are many big 'if's. Rather than looking at Rafa as a 22-yr
old,
look at him as a 4-year veteran playing a full schedule. He puts
on
more mileage on his wheels than anyone else and that is bound to
take its toll. Note how lacklustre he is in the 2nd half of every
year.
There has so far been only one male player with sustained
brilliance &
success over a long period: Fed. The others' peaks barely lasted 2
years.
It was just one year ago when all were asking *when* Fed would win
his 14th and now many are asking *if* he would win his 14th! So
things can change pretty rapidly.
Recalls the Williamses? Hingis? How people expected them to win
everything in sight and challenge Chris/Martina/Steffi/MC in slam
counts?

It is nevertheless quite tempting to ask how long Fed's record (if
he
gets it, that is) would last, looking at this Bull in the Grand
Slam Shop.

Yeah, can't under estimate him, but he does get worn down near the end
of every year.

I didn't think Nadal would win against Fed. Injury(ies).

NOW?

15 majors IS possible.

Fed = forever 13.

Seems unlikely, but I am done underestimating this guy.

The guy was tired from the SF, on a surface that doesn't suit him as much as
others, and just *willed himself to the title*. Sure, Federer's nerves for
reaching 14 where evident (in the serve accuracy mostly), but Nadal went out
there, looked Fed in the eye, and told him "I don't care if your strokes are
prettier, your game is better for this surface, you had an extra day of rest
and an easy SF - I will prevail".

The raw willpower available to this guy makes the underestimating him very
easy - as I have done multiple times.

Lucky me, I don't have an emotional investment in Fed, so being proven wrong
is only a delight in seeing a great player rise to his potential.

Sampras said rooting against someone is a bad carma.

Had Verdasco made the final I certainly wouldn't have rooting for him ie or
against Federer.

This was another epic, not as great as Wimbledon, but still, an epic.
