Subject: Dimitrov-Federer game comparison ...
Watching Dimitrov is not unlike watching Federer in terms of shots and
movement:

Serve - similar sort of action although Dimitrov's is flatter, more
straightforward motion (plus he actually gets some first serves in),
first serve looks bigger
Forehand - Dimitrov's is a bit loopy, doesn't have the big flat
forehand Federer used to have, but good still
Backhand - both look similar, Dimitrov's is impressively solid and has
a good slice already
Movement - nice easy movement from Dimitrov, not quite as smooth as
Federer but good nonetheless

Very impressive play from Dimitrov - just missing a bit of experience
as he is not being overpowered at all in the rallies.

He is falling into some of the same traps that Federer does against
Nadal - getting pushed a long way behind the baseline on his backhand
side and not being aggressive enough on second serve returns, but
overall those are minor points as this stage.

Lundgren could be right - this guy looks very good ...

Yes, I have heard that his backhand is better than Federer's. He is
taller than him so he has greater potential of being a great server too.
Of course - what he needs is match practice, both physically and mentally.

PS.

Well, his backhand was very solid in this match and he handled the spin from
Nadal well. However I don't know if he has the ability to hit winners off it
like Federer can - I don't think he went for any DTL backhand winners at
all.

Federer's forehand is (well, was) better - Dimitrov's looks fine but
sometimes it looked a bit jerky, possible due to his footwork being a bit
slow.

Still, all very early to be making judgements ... plenty of time to improve
and develop.

I don't think it has usually been a problem for Federer. Just in this
AO final.

His backhand actually does not look as great as advertised...
