No, Jedi means well but is obviously confused (actually needs his wife
to point out Wimbledon's prestige...?) - arnab is just a racist turd.

Congratulations - you are hereby awarded the title of Chief Nerd of
RST :-)

Unless someone genuinely has heard of all 15 ...

I've never heard of Vagnozzi, Klec, Ouahab, Petrazzuolo, Jaen,
Przysiezny or Bachinger so I score a miserable 9 :-)

That has to be Ted. He follows 10K women's events regularly... These
guys are playing qualifying for ATP event, they are pretty good
players.

17 names there, so if you miss 7, that should give you 10.

Fancy calling yourself an expert on tennis and thinking JMac was the
only top S/V player of his time. What kind of newbie/troll would think
that?

I don't mind someone saying "I've only heard of 2 players in the Doha
qualifying draw" - not everyone is as anal about things as some people
here. However if the same person makes another statement in a manner
which implies that they are an expert on some other detail of the
game, but I think that they aren't, then that annoys me.

Yup, I agree. But just so I understand, I hope I wasn't the person in
question. I hope I never said or implied I was an expert on tennis, because
that would be false.....

I see, so you prefer the popeye style of tennis expertise, where winning and
losing is based on how many pizzas you can wolf down before a match. Quite
an expert you are..

Goes without saying.

However you're nowhere near as bad as arnab - he is clearly one of the
biggest rst trolls ever - fancy coming into a tennis ng & acting dumb
about Wimbledon? Just ignore the prick - complete waste of b/w.

Whisper, given what you have told us about you and your life I can't imagine
you ever have any time to research tennis. As far as I know, you are not a
published author of anything tennis-related, and have made absolutely no
impact to the tennis world, so I think your arrogant nature is completely
unfounded. Why not make use of your supposed vast expertise for something
worthwhile? Publish a book, write a biography, write for a local tennis
column in your newspaper, something! Do you think you are up for that kind
of challenge? Until you do, you can make no claim to expertise in my
opinion.

I don't care if arnab doesn't value Wimbledon as greater than any other GS,
my interest was in "why".

I could do that, but so could any dickhead eg Wertheim.

I'm not interested in ego massage, which is all that would amount to.

For me there would be no more than 5% of tennis writers out there worth
reading - most are generic & offer no new insight, just regurgitate
basics. Yes this can be valuable for newbies.

er, that was obvious I thought? He's a racist.

If he really didn't think Wimbledon was tops he wouldn't be wasting this
amount of effort pushing shit up a hill.

I suppose that's the safest bet, any more ego and your head might explode

Ok, maybe I'm being a bit harsh - though Karol Beck has been around
for a few years and played a few big tournaments so he's reasonably
well known. I wouldn't expect anyone to know all the other names in
that list and I only know about half of them myself.

I don't have a problem with anyone posting at all - I only get annoyed
when certain people post statements professing that they are
knowledgable about the subject, when in fact they aren't really but
are trying to push a certain agenda (there's one poster in particular
as I'm sure you are aware) - I certainly wouldn't include you in that
category.

Also, in my defence my original post was slightly tongue-in-cheek -
the RST Entrance Exam was a joke post I made some time ago (probably
not very funny), trying to highlight some common things that are said
in this group.

It's OK, I made some harsh posts here to you just now too. I didn't really
mean any offense, I just got a little annoyed. I like the somewhat chaotic
nature of this newsgroup and I guess I would like to preserve that:)

As if you can do anything to lessen the chaos! No insult intended.

None taken. I can barely remember my own name, much less the 173rd
ranked player. I know a lot about something if only I could remember
what it is.

I can't say that I know a lot about many of these guys, since they
don't appear that often in televised matches, but some of their names
do crop up from time to time, e.g. Chuidinelli was the #2 Swiss DC
player with Federer for a while until Wawrinka came along.

A brave effort in perservering with the "prestige" discussion - I gave
up on that one a couple of days ago.

You might want to tell that to the late pope. But then again, your tiny,
lonely brain cell only has space for storing who the current teenage idol
currently is - it's that guy from Twilight this week, right?

I see, so only elite tennis followers should post here. You're being
awfully arrogant, don't you think? Maybe it's time you start your own
tennis forum to moderate and then it wouldn't be a problem anymore as you
could just delete anything you didn't like.

What else can one say when a poster allegedly thinks that an ATP
qualifying tournament allows women in it?

It sounded like an attempt at humor to me. Does everyone here have to be a
"good poster"? It seems to me to go against the unmoderated nature of this
forum..... we can always hope but in reality the killfile is the only
solution that has any teeth.

Maybe it was. But it is easy enough to search and the parochial nature
of the "joke" didn't appeal to me.

Killfile is a personal choice. Challenging someone is a reasonable
alternative, I suppose.

Amazing that some people actually know the names of lesser-ranked
players, isn't it? Who would have thought that regular posters on a
tennis newsgroup could be familiar with players who actually play?

I think part of your entrance exam should include binding agreements to not
get angry when someone says something you don't like. Also an agreement not
to let threads break down into flame wars filled with insults and cursing.
But I guess that would exclude you two from posting, eh?

No offence, but that's fairly poor for a regular follower of the game
and a poster on a tennis newsgroup :-)

Apart from Zimonjic and Beck, Peya, Mertinak and Chuidinelli should be
familiar names as they have appeared on the main tour/Davis Cup.

Al Ghareeb played Federer a couple of years ago and nearly beat him.

There are a couple of others I've vaguely heard of, but can't match
Sakari's 14 ...

Well, if Al Ghareeb is that guy, then my number is 15 :-)

None taken. Some of the names sound vaguely familiar but I wouldn't want to
say that I know a lot about them. I used to follow tennis much more closely
than I do now but I don't have as much time to do it as I would like and
here I have just spent the morning and early afternoon arguing about
prestige with arnab :) To be honest, I wish this group talked a little bit
more about actual tennis and not just pros...

I am certainly not saying I know a lot about them. The question was
"How many names do you recognize".

I think I am pretty good at knowing the names of irrelevant,
low-ranked players. But many of these are probably around 100-200.
That's pretty much as far as I know, except some occasional names.

Of course, Zimonjic is one of the best doubles players in the world,
Beck used to be pretty high ranked before his doping case, Bubka is

well in a challenger here recently, Klec and Mertinak have played

Son of THE Sergey Bubka, of course.
