I havent seen play yet. But saw a clip of her previous match on ESPN.
Havent seen for what 10 years now. I remember she beat Hingis in 1999,
Steffi Graf's last wimbledon.

At that time, I though Alexandra Stevenson, Mirjana Lucic and Jelena
Dokic are the next stars. It never happened. Good to see her playing
well.

To put Jelena's AO achievement (so far) in some perspective, Mirjana
(world #434) spent last week playing qualies for a 25K Challenger
event in Lutz, Fla. She won her 3 qualifying matches and a first-round
main-draw match (against a lucky loser ranked #394), all in straight
sets, before falling in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, to unseeded Michelle
Gerards (#277) of the Netherlands.

Alexandra is presently ranked #210, an improvement from #399 at the
beginning of 2008. She has been out with a shoulder injury since Nov.
16.

Three lovely girls, all of them, back in 1999, with punishing strokes,
promising futures, and completely wackadoodle parents. Jelena ditched
her Dad in favor of a pair of (incidentally, super-hot --- good on ya,
Jelena!) brothers, 1 as coach and the other as consort. Now she's the
feel-good, look-good story of AO2009. Could just be coincidence, of
course, but does make me wonder if Mirjana and Alexandra are still
dragging all that heavy mommy and daddy baggage with them on tour.

always said I was.

Some say Mirjana played with flu last week. She is trying, but she's not
moving up the rankings. Lack of focus is her still her main problem. She
played 50 matches last year and won 29 of them, compared to 35 won and 10
lost by Dokic. Jelena won 3 challengers last year and had a 12 match winning
streak at one point, Lucic never made it past the quarterfinals. She's not
in contact with her dad either, but is having a hard time finding her game.
She received an MD WC for Auckland this year, but lost in straight sets to
Keothavong in R1. Mirjana's best wins last year were those over Rodionova
and Tatishvili, but she was also close in matches against Tanasugarn (3 sets
in 's-Hertogenbosch) and Dokic (3 sets in Florence 25k). She's back in the
States where she's preparing for qualies of Midland 75k.
