Every time there's a poll it never fails that Roger is chosen to be
No. 1, win the French Open, yadda yadda

Now there's a poll asking who has the best serve in tennis and they
still pick Roger! Even over Dr. Ivo.

Incredible.

Not as good as the serving display in any of Pete's 18 Slam finals.

I'll be waiting for you to respond the same way when someone says Fed
excels in one area of the game.

It is stupid to make separate comparisons of serve, volley, ground
strokes, overhead, speed, endurance and stuff because it takes all of
these together to make a player. Federer has a 6-1 record against
Karlovic and that says it all.

Of course this has nothing to do with *logic* only Fed fanboyism. Come
to think of it, that's why
Fed was leading that poll. Because you and Giovanna voted 50 times!

but Fed's such a nice looking man, he should win the serve vote just for
that.

So then, by that logic, Nadal (88%) could have a better serve than
Feliciano Lopez (86%), Tsonga (86%),
Ancic (86%).

And it's also too close to call between Nadal and Karlovic (88% to
90%). Meanwhile, Karlovic averaged almost 18 aces a match and Nadal
averaged 3.

Wilander got 97% 1st serves in '88 FO final (missed only 1) - surely the
most amazing serving display in the history of tennis?

This really isn't rocket science. If Fed has a better forehand, better
backhand, is a 100 times
better mover, etc., etc and Karlovic STILL won 90% of his service
games this year compared to
Fed's 89%, doesn't that tell you something? Anything?

It tells me that at 90% vs 89% it means Fed fans have a case that he
has the best serve. Too close to call really.

depends what good is no ? u can't just look at aces but the total
percentage of points a player wins on his serve. so if karlo serves
70% aces and wins 72% of the points on his serve is his serve better
than a guy who serves 30% aces but wins 75% of his points on his
serve? the message being you don't have to hit aces to have a better
serve if your serve is such that it sets up an easy winning volley or
pulls your opponent so far out of court that you can win the point
with an easy passing shot.

i haven't checked the stats on this but it would be interesting to see
how federer and sampras compare to karlovic on this score.

Karlovic is clearly superior to Federer according to statistics.

Higher first serve%(K:66, F:64) and higher 1st serve win% (81, 77).
Karlovic even has better percentage of service games won(90,
89)...despite his poor groundgame being a liability on 2nd serves.

what a bunch of dumbasses. Thing is that to any non-tennis followers
(really casual viewers) Federer and Nadal (and probably Roddick) would
be the only names that would even stand out on that list. They
probably haven't even heard of Karlovic.
