He gets a win over a tired Nadal in final, which helps his legacy.
It's also a 2 slam swing vs. Nadal in slam total.

Federer needs to thank Verdasco, because I don't think Federer could
have hit through Nadal on this surface.

10 years from now, nobody will give a toss who Federer beat. All that
would matter is the win.

You probably forgot some RST nerds here.

First Federer didn't win the title yet. Second, this is why they are
called slams, winning seven matches.
Federer had his share with Berdych going to five sets, raised his game
to beat Roddick and Del Potro in short matches.
Can you tell me why Nadal's matches always look impressive, long and
tiring?!

Nadal grinds his opponents by defending every point to death,
something that affects him as well.

Anyway, he is not playing tomorrow, he has close to two days to rest.

I think he could. The reason I said that is Federer during his match
against
Roddick was repeated serving the wide serve to Roddick's forehand and it
is a similar strategy that VF was using against Nadal. Nadal's return
position
was pretty poor in this match and he was almost 3 meters behind the baseline
for VF's 2nd serve and the depth of his returns was ineffective. I think
Federer
wil exploit the return weakness in the final,

I'm not anti-Federer nor pro-Sampras, I'm just stating a fact.

Had Verdasco not been in such great form (killed Murray and Tsonga),
Nadal could be fresh for the final.

It is a part of the game. You have to try to make the matches as short
and healthy as possible. I am pretty sure Federer would win easier (at
least for the body) against Verdasco than Nadal. Nadal has to use his
physical and mental skills to beat him. Federer can use far more variety
and technical abilities to knock him out.

I am affraid so, I have Hamburg 07 in my mind. USO 08 Murray, YEC matches
with Federer....

Rafa needs to be well rested in order to beat anyone for that matter, not
just Federer.

Rafa in straights or Federer otherwise.

Really by the way why did it take Nadal to bear Verdasco 5 hr 14 hrs
to win. Stop finding excuses to diminish federer's greatness
