They guy seems to know how to get these guys very fit. Federer should spend
the next two-three months with him to win the FO.
Being very fit and strong will allow Federer to become a bumrooter and give
him a chance to tire Nadal and win the whole thing.

Im not sure thats what hes good at , from what i hear he sound more
like he almost takens on spiritual role rather than just trainer i.e.
he works through the training as writer would use metaphors.

I think for this reason alone it might , if anything , given him a new
persepctive on how to approach Nadal / life / tennis life in general.

LOL. I think Federer will be very grumpy if pushed to train that hard.
Remember some of those pics of Federer and Higueras at some training
session last year? The look of disdain on Federer's face?

Admitted though, if he actually were to hire Reyes he'd have committed
to pursue that kind of regimen and it could certainly work out for him
at the FO.

Federer, the bumrooter, out-bumrooting the ultimate bumrooter at the
Walhalla of bumrooting?

Well, I'm not sure that's to do with fitness. It's more tactical/
mental.

Federer did play a 5-hour match with Nadal in the Rome final.

He's not fit enough to beat Rafa at the French though. We may not
agree, but I think there's a level of conditioning that is beyond him.
Perhaps he tried to reach that level when he got struck by mono last
year. Maybe he got struck because by it because he tried to put his
body through more than it could handle at that time. Some people can
work, train and put their bodies through tougher programs than others.
That's not to say I don't think highly of his fitness level or
dedication. I just think things in general come a little easier for
him and he doesn't need to be fitter than he is... until he walks up
against a brick wall at the French.

His problem against Rafa at the FO (or elsewhere, for that matter) isn't fitness.

I'm curious where you get this notion considering he's one of the
fittest players on the tour.

When I see Federer getting a little beefed up (particularly the legs)
before the clay season I actually think he'd have a good chance
against Rafa.

Not very little. I think a really tough training regimen just comes
less natural to him :)

You seem to think that Federer does very little fitness training - he
has a full time fitness trainer and they work hard on fitness for two
blocks of time in the year (December and February).

True, as the air floats well on top of the glossy surface, it is
trapped in the earthy depth of dirt.
