The door has shut closed on him because of 2 things:

* father time
* new balls have matured into dominators(Nole, Nadal, Murray)

If he can eek out one more slam, it would be an absolute miracle.

What you say is very possible and it made more sense last year until
he won the USO.

He could have stopped at one, two, three, ....or 12 slams and it's
possible he could stop at 13.

But I'd be interested to see what he will be capable to achieve the
rest of his career.

"..the pressure of being an Aussie there..." I'm curious-
why should an Aussie feel more pressure at Wimbledon
than anyone else ?

And Roddick 2004 was an even more formidable opponent. Until that rain

You have no idea what you're talking about, do you? Roddick in 2003
didn't "happen to be Federer's bunny." He was the strong favorite
going into the tournament and was cleaning opponents' clocks left and
right. Federer stepped up and took it from him with inspired play
that, in the 2nd and 3rd sets, made Roddick look like a club player.
The second set of that match was a master class. The shot Fed hit to
win set point had commentators gasping and laughing with amazement.

And Flipper may not have been in the top 10 at the time, but he was an
extremely formidable opponent on grass. Since you don't actually care
about tennis qua tennis, you probably have no recollection of the epic
struggle -- one of the greatest matches I've ever seen -- in which
Flip defeated a very game Andre Agassi to get into the later rounds.
Flip has faded so far that it's hard to remember what he was like
years ago, but when that serve was clicking, he could be a monster.

Yes, but Phillipoussis(or however you spell his name) choked in that final
and was next to useless, he was clearly past his best, very nervous of the
whole event, the pressure of being an Aussie there etc and I remember what a
tragic match that was.

But for how long can Federer rely on getting tired and inexperienced
opponents in slam finals? Not to mention squeaking through soft draws.
Murray played 3 straight days, plus had to deal with the nervousness of
being in his first slam final. Not often you win your first slam beating the
#1 and #2 players B2B. Murray could only dream of getting this kind of
cakewalk draw to his first slam final....

R128
Lee, Hyung-Taik (KOR)
55
6-3 6-3 7-6(2)

R64
Koubek, Stefan (AUT)
70
7-5 6-1 6-1

R32
Fish, Mardy (USA)
45
6-3 6-1 4-6 6-1

R16
Lopez, Feliciano (ESP)
52
7-6(5) 6-4 6-4

Quater Final
Schalken, Sjeng (NED)
12
6-3 6-4 6-4
Stats

Semi FInal
Roddick, Andy (USA)
6
7-6(6) 6-3 6-3

Final
Philippoussis, Mark (AUS)
48
7-6(5) 6-2 7-6(3)

One top 10 player was all Federer faced in that draw, and he happened to be
his bunny.

Leave it to Fedfuckers to defend his weak ass draws for 90% of his slam
wins.
OTOH, Nadal & Nole have had to go through killer draws every one of their
combined 6 slam wins.
History will remember Nadal & Nole and Fed will be a footnote.
