Step 1 - Go find your nearest car.
Step 2 - Open the driver side door.
Step 3 - Put your head squarely between the door opening and the car.
Step 4 - Grab door handle.
Step 5 - Slam door firmly on your head.

It can't be a clown era when you have the greatest player of all time,
the best clay court player of all time and the biggest server who has
ever played the game all playing at the same time. Just because there
are two at the top that nobody else can touch doesn't make it a clown
era.

We all know how Whimpy's crazy mind works. McEnroe is the "talent
goat" (a nod to Whimpy's teenage year hero) and Sampras is both the
"ability goat" and the "achievement goat" (Whimpy's real love).

Well, it's at least close. He goes just as ballistic if someone says
Lendl >Mac as he does Fed>Sampras.

Wrong.

Whimpy has never posted hundreds of video clips of Mac's weakest shot.
But he did post hundreds of painstakingly crafted Sampras bh clips.

Whimpy actually collected some obscure 1989/90 Aussie Tennis Magazine
article on Sampras that compared the young Sampras with Pele, Nicklaus
etc. and scanned it for posterity in his HD. This is how nuts he is
about Sampras.

correct. Mac is just whispers beard for Sampras. Ditto for Mercir.

Incorrect. The only reason I'd lie is because I might be sensitive to
what you guys really think.

What are the odds?

++ It's going to be interesting to see the MONTSTER guy that comes
after Roger and Rafa and listening to the contemporary chorus lobbing
insults at their games, relegating them to a bye gone era of tennis...
I still remember the end of the supreme Laver and the US media
couldn't wait to find the "next one" and it looked to be Connors and
then this lanky guy with long blonde hair and a sweat band and tighter
than tight shirts and mini shorts hitting vicious spinning winners
came along and suddenly the Connors supporters couldn't be heard over
the screaming teenage girls and awe struck journalists... tennis was
HAPPENIN'...

I do believe Mac is Whisper's favorite.

I guarantee that if someone started a thread saying Mac was greater
than Sampras, Whisper
would reluctantly disagree but he wouldn't hurl insults. That would
warm his heart :)

He hasn't dedicated his life to keeping Mac discussions going in rst,
has he?

He didn't name Mac his "god of tennis", did he?

Do you understand *why* no one believes you when claim that Sampras is
not your "fave"? Do you at least recognize the bizarre discrepancy
between that claim and the emotionally charged torrent of rhetoric you
regularly unleash on behalf of Sampras, *whatever the nature of the
debate* (i.e., not simply outright GOAT arguments)? Why is that
behavior not "fanfucking"? If you insisted, "I, Whisper, do not post
here very often," would you expect people to believe that claim as
well, despite your 60,000+ posts providing conclusive evidence to the
contrary?

I agree that Federer cannot be deemed open-era GOAT until he passes
Sampras. "Passes" means different things for different observers.
Personally, I have always had Sampras ahead of Federer in the bottom-
line GOAT calculation, although I think Federer's career has been
superior in some respects (as has Pete's in others). If Fed wins the
AO, I will consider them tied.

Stop with the "Fedfuckers" nonsense. If you wish to rebut bad
arguments, name the specific people making them and provide the
details of their claims. Who, for example, explicitly stated that
Federer was the GOAT (not "might become" GOAT) after winning only five
slams? Don't confuse your nasty (and tired) rhetoric with reality.

With every single syllable in a four-paragraph profane rant, right?
LOL. Nice critical thinking.

He is right less than others and wrong more often than many. I'd say
he deserves a C and that includes a C for effort because, unlike you,
I don't think he gives it much thought.

I just want the truth to come out & have low tolerance for fanfucking
bullshit. Proof of this is Sampras is definitely not amongst my top
faves but he deserves credit for his goat achievements. If I were
biased I wouldn't be pushing him ahead of guys like Mac who were more
talented.

Federer has not yet passed any of Sampras' major records, so why would I
tout him as goat for last 3 yrs? That's idiotic.

If Fedfuckers want credibility then they have to be consistent & say
Rafa is goat because he's light yrs ahead of Federer at same age.

But no, Fedfuckers say let's wait til Rafa passes Fed yet won't accept
same logic when it comes to Sampras. Complete idiots.

Yes. *skriptis often chides Whisper that he doesn't post enough and is
holding back too much on his genius and is too polite with posters on rst.

I find Whisper an interesting case. I happen to think he's a pretty
astute observer of the game and
you know when he comes to a conclusion about something he's given it a
lot of thought, and therefore the
information he's provided deserves to be taken seriously.

Why he is incapable of admitting that, just like anybody else, he can
be wrong in his predictions is beyond me. I guess it has a lot to do
with all the flame-throwing around here. There's so much animosity in
this ng that apparently it makes people just go off the deep-end.

IMO, whisper is the all-time "most valuable poster" of rst.
Nevertheless, he does have his biases. Fortunately, he wears them on his
sleeve and thus it's easy for us to sift through posts tainted by them,
separate the wheat from the chaffe.

But when you have great players at (or close to) peak like Rafa, Fed
and I think Murray, what the rest
of the guys do is largely irrelevant.

Imagine Mac playing the 8th ranked player in 84, it wouldn't have
mattered if that 8th ranked guy was DelPorto or Brad Gilbert or Jonas
Bjorkman, no matter what they'd get massacred.
matter what

Whisper has repeatedly said how good he thinks Murray is. He's never
referred to Roddick as a "clown"

So right there we can safely ignore his latest comment that "the other
guys are jokes"

i do sympathize with whisper. For example, i'm an agassi fan, and if fed
wins this AO he'll not only tie sampras's record of 14 slams, he'll also
tie agassi as the top AO champ of the open era (both will have 4 AO titles).

i sure don't want that to happen, i like agassi having that distinction.
but if fed does win, i'll just tip my hat to him.

generally, posters who call this a 'clown era' are fans of prior
greats like sampras, agassi, borg, laver, etc. and who don't like that
their Hero's accomplishments are being surpassed, and thus use the
label to denigrate the achievements of the current players.

in other words, they can't be taken seriously.

Perhaps generally, but when you see performances like Delporto &
attitudes like Blake/Berdych ("honor to lose", 'Happy to give him a good
match" etc - rather than being bitterly disappointed at blowing
opportunity) you know it's very soft cock.

I still think Murray can be a multi-Slam winner. If he becomes that,
then we'd have three greats
all near peak playing at the same time. Not bad at all.

I'm pretty sure he will. He needs to get angry & work twice as hard
after losses like this.

I'm not sure anger is a positive thing in Murray's life as it is in others
(such as seemingly Mac). When Murray blows up on the court he often falls
apart too.

They were dis-armed after the Sampras cold wimbledon era ended.

Nobody is allowed to use them anymore.

They have been replaced by "nuclear boobs" al la SW but these are more
tactical than strategic in nature and are intended to drive you mad
while you watch them bounce up and down thus missing your return
volley.

Ugly, but effective !

According to whisper all that is missing is Pete Sampras and it would
