I say he has a good shot at 20-25 slams. Yes, he has a shot at winning
more slams than Graf. This current era of mugs, cowards and mental
midgets will allow Fed to win 20-something slams. Bet on it.

That other moonballer Arantxa was the first Spaniard to ever win a
Slam on hard courts.

Yes, this is incredible stuff and we're very fortunate to be able to
watch it.

Fed going for 14, what else can you say?
Rafa looking to be the first Spaniard to ever win a Slam on hard
courts and looking to tie
Borg as the fastest to six Slams in the Open Era.
Rafa looking to encroach on Fed's hard-court domination.

I don't see how any sport in the world has it any better right now
than men's tennis.

++ Fed and Rafa are amazing really... both guys under massive heat in
the last two years and BOTH are coming through... Rafa trying to get
to Roger in HIS championship at Wimbledon breaks through AFTER Fed
held off Nadal AND the pressure of trying to tie Borg as Rafa did in
accomplishing the DOUBLE last year, again with Borg court side and the
media hyping the story crushing Fed in the final, the other best clay
player in tennis... then Fed having sick-leave year, everyone saying
he's on the skids comes through and wins the USO to get to one behind
the great PETE... BOTH GUYS are just wading through the hype, the
pressure and the historical dimenions to accomplish some great feats
out there... now Rafa has eyes on taming Fed in hardcourts and Fed has
designs on nailing the magic #14 to his resume WHILE stemming his
recent losing slam record to Rafa... IT is ALL ON!

Fed's not stupid. He knows a tennis player's career is short. It's not
like golf where you have 20 more years
to win Majors. I'm sure he's thought for a while that with every
passing Slam Nadal gets closer to peak. He also
knows that any year now some new phenom could emerge. You're right
there will be extra pressure but it's more like the difference between
winning set point and winning match point.

OK, but then it took more than one guy to prevent him from winning
Slams. There was Lendl and Mac.

But there's been pressure for several Slams now. Even going back as
far when he had 7 or 8 Slams
people started talking about it and he had to have known that each and
every Slam final was critical.

That's probably why he played that tight first set against Gonzo at 07
AO and then a tight overall match against Djoke at 08 USO.

But the problem is who is going to take advantage of that besides
Nadal? I think Murray can, but he's going to
have to prove he can consistently make Slam semis and finals to even
be a factor.

Against anybody else, Fed can play below his best and still win 95% of
the time.

You can't be serious? There's a world of difference going for 9 slams
as opposed to 14 & 15.

Things change pretty quickly in tennis. Jimbo was a top player for 10
more yrs after winning his last slam.

Whisper can't be wronged, if Federer win AO this time and next prediction
from Whipser will be
15 max, 14 min. He will get it right eventually.

Have you factored in the pressure Fed will feel matching & then
surpassing the alltime record?

But if he manages to get to 15 quickly, then the pressure will be of,
and he starts winning easily again :-)

Yes, that's what I was saying. I predicted Murray would win 2 Slams
this year (probably not going to
happen now I admit) and he said "no way, do you know how hard that
is?" Then he jumped on Murray's
bandwagon. A while back he used to be on Djoke's bandwagon.

He's one of Fed's biggest detractors in this newsgroup (yeah look up

He sees Fed has a good chance of winning now, so he's changing his

The statistics suggest 15 or 16, unless he gets injured or retires
early (before age 31).

++ I know this is a side issue... but... I find it fascinating that
Tiger Woods doesn't have to face this issue on the various newsgroups/
forums... some lone voices raise it but they get hit be a HAIL of
rhetorical verbage to shut them up... EVEN THOUGH he doesn't even have
a Rafa in his time to tussle with... talk about mental midgets Phil
Mickelson, Ernie Els and though Vijay Singh is a rock, he like the
other 2 only have 3 career slam wins... no one to punch back at Tiger
at his own weight, on Tom Watson kinda guy to butt heads with... at
least Roger has Rafa... Roger gets called on his generation talent mix
but in Tiger's world, it's "they are the deepest fields ever, better
players over all..." Ya, who can't win majors to save their collective
lives (careers)... ODD...
