Why do you guys all drive so S..L..O..W..L..Y??

Can your cars not do more than 60 m.p.h on the freeway/motorway??
Seriously though, why is this...

It's not like this in Europe.

Yes, a lot of people won't slow down when they go over bridges, not
realizing the chance of black ice is much greater there, and they
could lose control in an instant.

This is the problem, people that speed think they are good and that
accidents happen to others not them, this is the formula to disaster.

Not sure what we arguing, too much speed cuts your chances to survive

People who drive fast are good enough to control the cars. Thats why
they do it. They are not stupid. If you are new to driving and you
speed you are a moron.

We used to have the "Montanabahn" but they eventually instituted a
conventional speed limit on the interstate highway there.

In the past, many states had "reasonable and prudent" speed limits --
meaning that if it was daylight, divided highway, light traffic, and
good visibility, you could really let it out. Because society is more
litigious now, and more people don't measure up to a "reasonable and
prudent" standard, this is probably consigned to history.

Yes, I believe the Cortina was only sold in the USA in its "Matchbox"
edition!

Speed matters, shit happens, like a blown tire, cars stops in the
front of you, another guy loses control, etc, at this time any extra
mile in speed reduces your chance to control the car.

No, we have plenty of idiot drivers here too. I was once one of
them. It is the unecessary darting in and out on the 3-lanes that
drives me nuts. American fast drivers will do anything to stay out of
left lane where they perceive larger threat of getting measured, which
is probably a myth. Consequently, you have all these stupid fucks
tailgating in all lanes and do quick in and outs, bumper distance
shit. They come flying up into blocked traffic, and its like "what
the fuck?!". They think it is fucking Talledega out there. I drive
plenty fast, but I can see 300 yards in front of me and if i need to
pass I go to the left whenver possible. If I was a cop, god forbid,
the guys I would be looking for are fast lane changing assholes.
Excuse me, I've been on the road a bit lately...

People that speed up are not different than the other people, they
eat, shit, talk, do everything like others, the only problem is that
they won't have time or a chance to control the car when shit happens.

When the weather gets ugly here and the snow, ice,etc is filling the
highways, most of the people drive very carefully and you find these
few idiots driving big 4x4 cars flying as if they are justifying the
money they paid for the cars, it's the matter of driving like 5-15
minues more, I find them crashed or flipped on the side of the roads.

You can run over anyone easily at 30mph. Speed doesnt matter. If you
are not alert on the road, you can get yourself killed or somone else.

No the ones that kill are not speeding, they are the ones who are not
concentrating on the road (putting on lipstick, drunk or on phone).
The speed freaks are the ones who are the most careful, since they
know they are fucking with Death.

naked in the seat next to me while i was driving on motorways. i
almost crashed on the m25 once because it was so distracting.

Don't know where you drove, but around here the speed limit on
interstates is 70mph, with most driving over that.

This is the problem, drivers that like speed think they are in control
which I don't mind but they usually end up killing others on the road.

65mph.

Uk speed limit is 70mph but no-one pays any attention to it, and their
is a fairly big lobby to increase it to 80, most people go
75-100 on the motorway...

Of course In germany their is no speedlimit
and in France it is 80mph.

Yes. Most Americans can't really "drive" either, since they are all so
lazy they have to use Automatics. ;-)

Can't speak for others, but I prefer automatics because I have a
stop-and-go commute and having a manual makes an already tedious task
worse.

I do have a rather unromantic view of cars and driving. Tend to treat
cars like can-openers, can-openers that happen to get me from point A
to point B. So long as they're in good repair and do the job is what
matters, the rest is unimportant.

Yes maybe you guys drive so slow in the U.S because your cars are too
big??

I remember when I went to the U.S you would only see a hatchback
literally every 1 in a million cars, whereas in Europe they are like 1
in 2.

I mean, those imbeciles with their little cars try to push off the
road anyone who does not move fast enough for them. Nothing more
dangerous and silly than someone in little European sub-compact
tailgating a normal sized car.

If those big cars of yours were safe enough you wouldn't feel threatned by
smaller but more resiliant european cars. :)

That is not correct. I drove about 50 miles each way on the freeway
for five years and the speed limit was 75 mph. I stayed in the slow
lane because I did not want to go over 70 mph. Even large trucks
passed me as if I was standing still.

Europeans are insane drivers. When in Europe, I do not take a car into
large cities. I like the European scenic country roads.
