Yes. Like "Lendl was dominating 1989, despite the fact the lost
against Becker in Wim SF and USOpen F, furthermore got his ass spanked
by a 17year old boy in French Open. But this does not count. It was
wasn't importanth, he actually DOMINATED the tour 1989!" LOL

We all have gone a gazillion time over this. YE#1 is a jackpot stat
and has no significance whatsoever. Sampras won 4 tournaments in 1998.
He didnt dominate that year.

We've all gone over the fact Becker won Wim/USO in '89, beating Lendl in
both tournaments yet you say Lendl dominated?

Dumb fuck.

Collin's Total Tennis claims 106-16. From 32 tournaments, but I have
seen other numbers as well (depends on "exos" + other tournaments as
there were only 30 "normal" open tournaments for pros 1969).

All the three dominated the year but Vilas was the most impressive
followed by Borg.

Bad matchup issue may be. Also Lendl was 9 years older. But he
dominated the rest of the field. Becker didnt, And both those matches
were close. Especially the 89 Wim semi which could have gone either
way. You are just trumpeting Becker because you are German.

Sampras is the guy with 6 successive yrs at yr-end No.1 (all time
record) & most weeks at No.1 in history. Your 'dominance' criteria
needs some tweaking methinks?

Add the fact that Connors had 88-8 for 1977...(and was #1 on
computer).

Multiple tours (Grand Prix, WCT...). Practically twice as many events
for players to choose compared to today.

I have exact numbers somewhere but it was smt. like 120-17. (yep those
days they played a lot more, Laver played 1969 about 33-35
tournaments. some of them was "exhibition" nature by today's standards
and most of the smaller events were only 8/16 draws.

Yes, he was a great player. And he hardly lost against journeymen. He
may have dominated almost all players in 89, but he didn't dominate
Boris Becker. (and Michael Chang, just for protocol :)

I don't know how many times you come with the so called "domination of
Lendl 89".
Boris Becker won Wimbleond and USOpen that year and beat twice the
crap out of Lendl!
Only a complete retard would call this "domination by Lendl"

He won 17 singles & 17 doubles titles that yr, including calendar slam -
the most dominant season in tennis history not just open era. Typical
Raja insight to miss that & Sampras' 6 yr-end No.1's yet include Lendl
so many times despite never winning the biggest title in tennis & being
most famous for most slam final losses.

What a dork.
