Yes, Federer has the achievements, the records, the slam titles
but....Nadal is a better player than Federer. He has a component in
his game that Fed is missing, his mindset. If Federer had that he
would be holding the trophy today.

All said and done, great match! Congratulations to both players. They
are phenomenal athletes and players. But let's give credit to Nadal,
he is a better player (make that competitor), than Federer. And to
think he won this after playing a 5+ hour match, without an extra days
rest. Unreal. Un $#@#$%ng real.

No vamos from me, I feel too badly for Roger. He's a great champion
and he'll be back, maybe he'll win the FO.

The tennis gods have spoken. Don't mess with the tennis gods. lol!

I swear after Federer won the fourth set and starting the fifth, he
looked like he wanted to go home, he looked scared. I expected to see
him motivated and ready to finish it but...
Federer played a clean match in Wimbledon 2008 and lost the match, it
could have gome his way, but he played.
Today he knows it and this is why he cried, he did not serve well at
all, actually he did not even serve average.
He had more than 30 aces in Wimbledon 2008 and I think he had more
aces in his fast loss to Nadal in the FO 2008. This is why it's tough.

Regarding Federer will be back, I'm not sure if you were joking or
serious, but he will be back and will get his share again.

You says this because you have not followed -like me- the race of
Nadal since 2003. You at least must recognize that there are people in
the world who have the ability to anticipate (and I mean nothing
esoteric or divinatory arts, but a lot of a good observation, a good
mental exercise of analisys and a little of intuition). I said here
about Nadal: wait and see ... (same thing I said about Obama to my
family and neighbors)

Enjoy (relax first).

EXCELENT !!! applause, you have the EXACT POINT: the mindset.
But his mindset is part of his personality. As a person, Nadal can go
so very far, not only in tennis, and hopefully I can take many people
mental attitude Rafa on many vicissitudes of life.

Depends on what basis you're making that judgement. Is Nadal better
than Fed in a one-on-one match up? Clearly yes. Is Nadal better than
Fed vs the rest of the tour? The rankings say so at the moment, but
only in the fullness of time can we make a more definitive judgement
on that e.g. based on duration of dominance of tour by Nadal, vs Fed's
dominance, etc.

I do feel a bit sorry for Fed though. It's almost as if Nadal was
genetically engineered by a scientist specificially with the aim of
developing a player to beat Fed; this nightmare match-up just gets
worse and worse for Fed.

Nadal is better than Federer right now, and over the last year. You
can't say anything more than that.

He could have been aggressive himself on those second serve returns -
I know that Sampras would have had a crack at one of them at break
point

Sampras would also have served better and hit his famous "nuclear volleys"!

Sampras would have routined in three sets Nadal tired as he was today.

Nadal came up with the goods on clutch points as opposed to Fed
breaking down.
All BPs Nadal saved in the third set were because of the aggressive
shotmaking. Fed couldn't do anything on those.

Also watch the point in the third set TB with Nadal up 5-3. He opened
up the court with a super cc backhand going to Fed's forehand, then
moved Fed around and came to net and finished with a superb cc
backhand volley.

Now Fed has matchup issues on both his wings, backhand and forehand.

I think the pressure got to Federer, I know it did. I missed him
breaking down, but win or lose he was going to cry today.

I don't know if he grafted mental toughness onto his game but I do
know he became a retriever which improved his confidence.

Nadal is naturally mentally very strong, Federer isn't really. Federer
grafted mental toughness onto his game (he had to otherwise he
wouldn't have dominated) but it's not quite the same thing as being
born that way. He's always fighting against his nature while Nadal
isn't.
