"An obligation"? Why, and to whom?

He is the something-or-other of the Players' Council, and he has an
obligation to defend the players' interests in that forum, but this
public, personal statement is bound to be seen as defensive, and to be
badly misconstrued in certain quarters.

jobs.

If one of these pricks came around looking for a piss sample from me
while I'm on vacation I'd unload right in the bastard's face.

I think he's absolutely right. But he should have been aware of how
this is going to play out in the minds of people who are disposed to
smear him in the first place. I'm not sure he showed good judgment in
making his feelings public.

He has already had a visit from anti-doping agents at his home on the
Spanish island of Mallorca, at 8am on a Saturday. He had just had a
night out with his friends.
