Some thoughts:

First match of the year I saw from Jarkko. He has been saying he has
played best tennis of his life this year, don't know yet what he
thinks about this one. (Although you could see and hear he wasn't
happy with some things in 2nd and 3rd sets).

He started very aggressively (for him), and I believe that's exactly
what has been working this year. Until 2-2 he had no problem in the
rallies, even was slightly dominating. Had 2 break points in the first
game.

Then Nalby settled in and started to dominate most of the rallies. He
seems to be in pretty good form. In this match he also had advantage
with the serve, which doesn't happen that often. Jarkko started maybe
missing a little and lost some of that aggressiviness, but I think a
lot of it was just Nalby playing well.

So Nalby was going for a pretty easy win serving for the match at 6-3,
5-4. Then he choked totally in that game. Jarkko broke back, held for
6-5, had 3 set points in Nalby's next service game, but it went to a
tie-break. Tie-break was exciting and pretty absurd. Until 4-4 the
server lost every point. Then Jarkko had so many more set points that
I lost count. I think he finally won the tie-break with his 9th or
10th set point 11-9.

In the 3rd set the level of play maybe dropped a little, but it was a
great fight. 6-2 is not quite fair. Jarkko had his break points, but
couldn't take them. Nalby should have won it in two, but I think
Jarkko had a chance in the 3rd. But 9 finals now, 1 title...

Nalby is a factor at AO. Hopefully Jarkko can do well too. Not an easy
start against Mathieu after a week like this.

Saw only the last set, didn't think Jarkko was playing particularly well.
Nalby was making silly errors all around the place too, so if the entire match
was like that, I guess Whispy kinda had a point for once...

Jarkko was at the time very passive, hit the ball very short (some of his
groundstrokes dropped halfway of the service box). Did play good points every
now and then, but lacked consistency. His 1st serve looked fairly good though,
good %.

(of course he's wrong about women's final, any match Dementieva wins is a
good match by definition...)

I didn't see the women's match but friends have said it was rubbish.
Given it was Safina & Dementieva that's always very likely.

As I said, I thought the level dropped in the 3rd set. I think Nalby
played well from after the first few games until 5-4 in the 2nd. I
thought Jarkko was most aggressive right in the beginning, but he said
himself he started playing better only when he had to. The tie-break
was more dramatic than good, and 3rd set was a good fight, closer than
6-2 looks like, but the worst of the sets in quality.

It had drama but too much crap play spoiled it.
