I didn't count votes, but looking at it overall it's perfectly clear that
the title goes to.....Whisper.

Apparently most people here would actually like to meet him.
In a way that makes his tier 1 status here undisputed.
whatever some may think about it.

snuggles into bed with him.

I didn't count votes either, but first of all, very small number of
rst posters said anything in this thread. Second, I didn't get the
impression too many people said Whisper. In fact, I was surprised by
how many people wanted to meet me... :-)

In a way it exposes a serious flaw in your logical thinking. Almost everybody
that stated that they would like to meet Whisper want to do it for reasons
other than "tennis insight". (e.g. he's funny)

You said you didn't bother to count the votes, so how do you know? For that
matter how can you come to any kind of conclusion about anything without
doing some kind of quantitative analysis *at the very least*? Not really a
surprise though... at least for a tier 1 "analyst" such as yourself.

What you've come up with is an anecdotal conclusion. Sounds pretty
consistent with the other "conclusions" you guys push around here.

Overall probably Sakari and Vari.

Others could include Whisper, Dave, TJT, wg, RahimAsif, arnab.z, Prof. X and
Raja. I'm probably forgetting some others.

Well, just as I've met and played tennis with a number of the RST old timers,
I'd enjoy meeting and hitting with any RSTers over, say, 25 years of age.

Anyone passing through the Washington, DC area -- I'm always around.

And headed to San Diego (Rancho Bernardo) on Wednesday -- anyone playing out
there?

As to those I'd find interesting to talk with over a beer or a whisky -- again,
many, even Whisper, though I can't stand to read his posts. But if I had to
choose only two, probably vc and Sakari.

there are quite a few posters here whom i find very knowledgeable/
readable and with whom i enjoy exchanging opinions about tennis,
including blanders, gordon, rodjk, mikko. There also used to be
dudewaba whose posts (very lengthy :-)) that i loved.

however, as far as meeting is concerned, I would like to meet whisper
and wkhedr. whisper because he doesn't take things personally, seems
very open-minded about people and things in general, and actually has
a good sense of humour. Plus we can check out some good matches from
the '90's, :-).

wkhedr because he seems a genuine fed fan and it would be fun
discussing aspects from important fed matches.

For me one would surely be Steve Jaros, his tennis preferences seem
equilibrate and I share his anticommunist vision of the world

The second one is really difficult, most of the european people on RST
are liberals, a category that I really dislike to talk with.
So I have to go with another yankee, maybe Hops.

If everyone on earth had a decent education then everyone on earth
would be better for it: -
1) Higher global GDP
2) Higher levels of technological innovation
3) A lesser NEED for charity
4) Lower levels of poverty

It's strange that those who advocate the pure free-market can not
always see this. Free healthcare + education is a must. Obviously the
state should not provide everything, but a 'safety-net' should be in
place, to stop the bottom falling out of society.

What I have against capitalism is that you define 'merit' as meaning
-- simply those with money...
A point of view such as yours simply creates a viscious circle whereby
the rich get richer and the poor poorer. The idea that the best will
simply 'rise to the top' or that wealth will 'trickle down' are false
ideas, and have been proved so by none other than George W.

It is more likely that providing free-healthcare and education if a
far more effective way of ensuring that gifted individuals do actually
succeed -- based on merit (intelligence and ability) --- not wealth...

That is a true meritocracy...

I guess by most standards I am considered "wealthy" even though I
swore off pursuit of the almighty dollar long ago and now work only
for charity. And, I agree with you.

The wealthiest people on earth have more money than they could
possibly spend in 1000 lifetimes and perhaps 10000 lifetimes. Talk
about waste ! That money could feed every hungry child on earth,
provide medical care for every person on earth and a college education
with trillions left over to boot !

Now I ask you, wouldn't that be a BETTER world for ALL ?

You misunderstand the concept of meritocracy. What you are advocating
is the market-based distribution of human rights.

Right you are -- every two-year-old without a good job (preferably in
the financial services sector -- we all know it will soon rebound and
assume its rightful hegemony) should kiss his or her vaccinations
goodbye. And if you're stupid enough to allow yourself to be born to

Grover Norquist?
What about Nobel Laureates Friedriech August von Hayek, Milton
Friedman and Robert Lucas jr?

Private enterpreneurship can take care of that

"the invisible hand' is best allocation method for anything, including

Max Weber well analyzed the way in which modern progress almost

according to a strict 'you have to deserve it' ethic

Which is to say, plutocracy:

When it comes to money, these so-called "libertarians" run with the
plutocrats every time.

What's really remarkable is the economic theory so popular on the Right
and among so-called "libertarians" that you should do everything you can
to destroy the value of labor, while still expecting good
consumer-confidence and -buying-power and corporate sales and revenues and
dividends and so on:

We've now seen the results of that theory in action in the US, thanks to
the two corporate plutocratic parties here.

Conservatism = plutocracy + theocracy + hypocrisy
Liberalism = plutocracy + psychosociocracy + hypocrisy

No way, I am against fascism almost as much as I am against communism.
Fascism is a form of big government, with huge public spending and
strong centralization in decision.
I am for no taxes, no public spending and delocalization of decision
to local communities.
What I really dislike about liberals is that they are against
meritocracy, they want to give away everything for free to everybody.
If you want healthcare or education you have to deserve it and pay for

Well if some people want hair transplant, silicon breasts, botox injections
etc, I'd agree they have to earn it, ie pay it.
Otherwise I completely disagree when it comes to *basic* healthcare.

until the shoe is on the other foot and you need help at which point
you change your tune right ? oh i see that will never happen eh ?

nobody thought a year ago we would be on the verge of a second great
depression either.

if there was a nuclear war or even a great plague where money became
worthless and food and water were worth everything and you didn't have
any and your neighbor was a farmer with LOTS of food and his own wells
and refused to share his wealth with you and your family and kids were
dying what would you do ?

say, oh i understand, you deserve 10000 times more than you need
because you merited it justt because you happened to be a farmer and
therefore my family has to die because i was an investment banker ?

yes. all investment bankers should be put to death. they merit it !

Anticommunist FFS. You think most of the people in rst are communists
maybe?

>The second one is really difficult, most of the european people on RST

Are you using the world "liberal" like the Americans do? In that
sense, most of the European population probably is "liberal".

If you want hard-core republicans, probably blanders would be a better
choice. And Max in Europe.

And how do you know that Hops is not a liberal?

Good question. I have met Geert who used to post here, but has
disappeared and doesn't even answer Wendy's mails.

I'd like to meet Amy Cottrell who doesn't post any more either. Then
I'd like to meet Wendy, becaus she still owes me a lunch, because
Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004 :-)

A number of good posters here, but I don't know if I would especially
want to meet them.

"amy cottrell" struck me as being very intelligent; other than that
she (or whatever the case was) was hard to get a good read on because
i tended to not believe much of what she wrote about herself.

wendyg seems pretty civil and is probably a reasonable person to meet
once or twice.

that's my attitude about internet posters in general. since becoming
commercial, it has become a very anonymous, and impersonal, medium
such that it is easy to adopt "alternate" personalities. so you are
never sure that you know the reality of those with whom you are
interacting. even the "personal networking" sites seem to have a sham
quality about them...i mean, to how many of the hundreds of "friends"
(that you can get on such sites) would you really feel a personal
connection?

do we have a disagreement? It's fine if we do, but I
think enough of your posts to wonder where it is.
I actually think rst has become more civilized and

Disagreement ? No. As for RST becoming more civilized and
intelligibly worthwhile in the last year or so ? No, that applied to
at least a few in RST. I just don't see TT or Whisper type getting
more civilize...

I think the question was whom one would like *to meet*.
There are good dozen rst posters I enjoy reading but have

Ok Carey, Sakari and Wendy are the two people I like to meet and of course
there are a few others, but I will never pay my own money to meet trolls
like
Whisper, Boob, Hardcell, Prof. Dr and Skriptis and Rahima.

While I have nothing bad to say about them, imo Whisper has far more
credentials than anyone you mentioned.

And I must say Larry's most visible contribution to the group is informing
about his kilfile, much like arnab.

IMO Whisper is more intelligent and has more credential than
some super troll like TT, Hardcell and few other fanbois. Even
then I would not waste my time with him. I will be interested in
meeting him only if you pay for all the expenses. I don't pay to

Professor X, Superdave, Giovana, Rahima. I like to meet Sakari Lund,

Whisper? Sure. They guy's intelligent, but religiously fanatic. Reminds me of
a friend I have that is a very smart person, multiple degrees, etc, but... is
outright religious when it comes to Star Wars. I love to see him twist in
knots when I point out the contradictions in his dogma :D

Rupedski? Why? So you can experience a childish tirade live? It would be
easier to go to a daycare center, and the kids don't threathen to beat you up
for disagreeing.

Hmm...biased to Sampras???...I never liked him but it is just
impossible to fight against his numbers (and his game with was obv.
great on fast courts).

I would post more often but a) I happen to have a real job and then
friends who "unfortunately" also take some time and b) I usually
filter, think and combine whatever shaff I am going to post into more
longer posts instead of one-sentence replies.

I would definitely like to meet Whisper (may be tennis match
involved... ;) ).

Mikko is cool but he is biased to Sampras in general. He also posts
very less to make an impression. The best and most knowledgeable
poster here ever was Lloyd. He made meaningful posts and had a lot of
facts attached him. He also watched tennis ever since the mid 70s and
could articulate better than anyone here. Unfortunately he got fed up
of Whisper and left.

Why do you have to waste you time on *disphit. He is most likely a
sock of Whisper.

Now this is not a nice reply.

1. You haven't said whom would you meet, you only analysed my choice.
2. You insulted Rupedski for no good reason. Makes it even worse since he's

Fair enough.

I'd like to meet Mikko, the real tier-1 analyst of RST. Although I'd probably
feel like an ignoramus after a few minutes, the guy has forgotten more about
tennis than I'll ever know.

And I think I'd like to watch a match over beers with Hardcell. Particularly
one with lots of breaks of serve and momentum changes. I suspect that the guy
would be a total riot :)

I have not insulted him. His childish tantrums and offers of violence are
documented fact. You don't have to take my word for it, you can search on
google groups.

praying to god for Fed to win along with Hazelwood going awol would be
a site to see..

I might retract that statement about the last 2 on seconds thoughts
it probably be really boring..

In fact to be hoenst Im not sure what the hell Im even doing here ,
the only person I've known for any length of time in a very very
objective role is Whisper ( simply because he spams so much ) , and
he hardly sounds like bundle of fun..

Wendy , Larry please .. if I wanted to get stats on match Id got to
the fuckin atp site ..

Maybe the only redeeming part of meeting any one here would be betting
against them i.e. Groundass and Prod X but thats about it..

Im not such big fan of any of the players , my favs are long gone and
dead so theres really not much to say beyonf that .
