Congrats Jarkko, great play.

Djokovic missed a chance, again, at reaching #2. First two times were
understandable against Nadal on clay...this time not so much.
Lot's of UE's from Novak, clearly getting that #2 means a lot to him.

It was quite windy out there too.

It's good times for such feats. Monfils got his first #1 win last week. Davydenko
got his first #1 win, after 13 failed attempts, at the end of last season.

He might have done a strategic tank to get a couple of days rest
before AO.

Jarkko is playing the best tennis of his life at the moment. So he
keeps saying after every match. Many good wins, and one very, very
close loss this year so far.

He said he handled the windy conditions much better. Djokovic forehand
was apparently not working at all. Could be also partly the new
racket.

It looked for a few hours today that I might be commentating the final
tomorrow live on FST5. But eventually the bosses of YLE Sports didn't
manage to get the rights. That would have been a pretty big situation
for me, much bigger than the early round matches at the Olympics...

So are you watching this somewhere? Since I am not commentating it,
I'd like to see it anyway. I haven't seen any of Jarkko's matches this
year, and he says he has played really well in all matches. Nalby is
tough though...

He's missed about 5 set points in 2nd set - now 6-6 in t/b.

Go Niemenen!

The final is scheduled starting 19:30 Sydney time...So links at
http://www.channelsurfing.net/
should be working at around 10:30 in the morning here.

There are couple links for "Medibank International" when you scroll down.

Thanks. It is on Viasat, but I am not going to buy it now, don't know
if I would get it in time anyway.

9th final for Jarkko, and only 1 title so far. He is playing so well
now apparently, that he would certainly win a smaller tournament. This
is tough when you have to beat Djokovic and Nalby.

It's on Urheilukanava on Saturday...

Where did you get that? In their web site it is just Auckland.

Yeah, I misremembered that Jarkko played in Auckland.

Sorry if I raised false hopes...

Should be available on the web - try justintv or one of the usual suspects.

yeah, Djoker is a #3 only and soon when Murray overtakes him he will
fall to his rightful place of #4 and perhaps further.

I did not watch, but is it possible he wanted to rest?

It looked to me that he definitely wanted to win this. Getting #2 (which
I believe is his goal for the season) added extra pressure and Jarkko
was playing really well.

I guess he feels he doesn't deserve to be ranked higher than
Rafa or Fed. He seems to think differently from his parents :-)

he's right.
