The draws are out. Same rules, predict the winner/finalist for both
men and women. Scoring allocation:

Winner Pick is Winner 6 points
Finalist Pick is Finalist 4 points
Winner Pick is Finalist 3 points
Finalist Pick is Winner 3 points

Picks must be from different sides of the draw. If they are from the
same side, only the Winner pick will be allowed.

If one of your picks is in danger of pulling out of the event you can
select an alternate pick, but the alternate is only valid if the
original pick withdraws before their first match.

A perfect score of 20 will be rewarded with ... something, hopefully.
Any more programs, wendyg.

All entries will be listed here:

http://www.tennis28.com/funstuff/rst_2009sp_AO.html

Entries must be posted before the first ball is struck in Melbourne on
Monday.

Good luck.

Not referring to network bandwidth, but information bandwidth - rst being a
troll and nut zone. Not you of course. Like a bad web site with flashing
ads all around what you're trying to read. Rst as public urinal. Bad.

Killfiles don't adequately deal with the problem of rst. It's not actually
so bad at this very moment that I look at it, but I think the point needs to
continue to be made to continue progress (and hopefully I'm correct that
there is *some* progress).

You want RST troll-free? Well, it's easy. You just need to find arguments that
persuade both sides and bring closure to the GOAT debate, the clown era
debate, and convince hazelwood and giovanna to leave.

(could you elaborate on the subject of Hops' contest contributing to RST being
"a public urinal"?)

Great minds think alike Hops!
Except my mind is two days faster than yours. :)

Anyway, this great mind is far from confident with his picks this year
(men's and women's side).

One other thing I'd like to mention about my women's side pick.
I am _not a Serena fan. In fact, quite the opposite.
But this contest is not about picking your favorite players.

You miss the point that it's not the intelligence of the picks, but the
(lack of) intelligence of the gamblers. And you know these morons are out
here. Proof of lack of intelligence of gamblers does not need to be
adduced. So it's the dumb gamblers who create more problems out here. The
**real** dumb ones.

Yes, you are one of the people who attract them with these insipid contests.

These contests tie up a good chunk of the bandwidth of the newsgroup and
they are without value.

As I said, people who want to make picks can still do it informally and brag
about it later.

ROFLMAO!

Seriously, "Value"? In RST? You're kidding, right? In a place where each
months there are hundreds of posts debating serious stuff like the definition
of prestige, whether Roger Federer is arrogant or not, Nadal's clothing du
jour, "clown era", Mirka's size, and 7543?

Come for the tennis, stay for the laughs.

Federer hasn't *convincigly* beaten Nadal in a final since..well..never, on
any surface even during his prime.
I am sure he can't do it now, when Nadal is #1, so at least it will be a
tough match. And Rafa prevalis in those.

I am suspicous of Nadal making the final, but if he makes it, I am confident
he will win it.
I'll go with:

Nadal d. Federer
Jankovic def. V.Williams

Hops, isn't the only point of these things to provide gamblers out here with
a convenient location for information? You are encouraging the trollishness
of this group.

How about you kill this tradition.

If people want to post predictions, they can still do it, in their own
messages, easy to find on google. Easy to brag about afterward. But no
point making it easy for the gamblers to find things...

To posters who agree: why don't you post garbage made-up joke picks.

Bumrooters more like it - Jankovic is no.1 without winning anything big
so you are a bit like her & Kim.

to be fair, the aus open hardcourts suit nadal much more than the
USO.. nice and slow and highbouncing when it's hot. Old feddys
backhand would just crumble as usual if they met in final.
Unfortuantely muzza will take nads out in the s/finals and then trash
fed in final. Either way feds a loser.

Rafa is getting better every yr on HC's & it suits him being
underestimated. He's really ripping it in practice. I concede Murray
is the only stumbling block I foresee, but I think Rafa will get up for
that one - not likely to lose 2 slam semis in a row to same guy.

Zvonareva was my first a little bold prediction in the history of the
contest. And actually not that bold, she is one of the very few women
(tennis player, it should be added), who has impressed me in the last
few months. Wozniacki would have been the really bold pick, but that
was a bit too much for me...

AO! Let's go!

Venus d. Jankovic
Djokovic d. Nadal

There was a pretty tough matchup in the qualies - Malisse d. Dancevic
36 75 61
Kiefer withdrew and Dancevic still makes the main draw
