Schnyder, 30, earned a code violation for audible obscenities during an
argument with chair umpire Kerrilyn Kramer over a line call.

She pointedly avoided shaking Kramer's hand after the match before
complaining to reporters about the officiating and a slow court.

Worse, Schnyder pulled her hand away after making it look as if she wanted
to shake hands.

At least there wasn't any hair-pullin'.

AFAIK, she's not known for outbursts like this. The umpire must have really
pissed her off.

She's not known for swearing, no, but she's had plenty of other wacko
incidents. There was the year she got dubbed "Petty Patty" because
Conchita Martinez ticked her off - CM always liked to play with the same
ball she'd just won a point with, and PS pocketed the ball and refused to
give it up. There was the match she tanked - admitted she tanked - against
Kournikova because "I don't like her". There was the orange juice guru,
and have you seen her and her husband's Web site?

ps can be summed up in one word.

Here is that creepy website.

There's no obvious link to it from her more conventional site.

Good tactic, really. It would be an annoying waste of time to insist on the same
ball each time, and it's obviously in your interest not to allow your opponent
to do what she likes to do if it's within the rules.

Yes, I did see the website once. I think it had spiders or other nasties
crawling over it or something. Weird, but interesting. I knew she was a little
nutty, but I didn't think she threw tantrums on the court.

She was playing Conchita Martnez in one of the green clay events
several years ago. Martnez had a thing about wanting the same ball
back every time she had a really good point. Schnyder apparently saw
this as time wasting, and eventually got so irritated by it that after
one point, she took the ball and wouldn't give it back to the ballkid,
forcing Martnez to use a different ball for the next point.

Schnyder and Martnez didn't shake hands at the net after the match, if
memory serves.

She and hubby had a blow-up last year in Europe somewhere, IIRC.

I blame the umpire. pretty rare for Patty to swear like that at a
umpire. or in any match.

schnyer has been pretty insane for years. like the "i can't play
against her" outburst when playing kournikova ages ago..
