On orders from my gastroenterologist, I didn't watch the WATER
BUFFALO's roll over DumbDumb this a.m.

My doc told me not to watch the WB two hours before or three hours
after my breakfast, if I wished to keep it inside.

But tell me if this thumbnail analysis is far off:

DumbDumb was too stupid to change angles and speeds to try and make
the WB sweat and move more than she likes. Which is all the time.
And of course, DD served up her usual quota of
DFs.

I remember that match. I had got cable after an year and was excited
to watch Sharapova after a long time. And she got killed by Davenport.
She wasnt serving that well but Davenport was returning insane and
serving insane too. It wasnt Sharapova's fault, Davenport was just too
good. The match got over in like minutes. Almost like the Serena-
Sharapova final of 07. But Sharapova was crap that time.

My God, that Safina is crap. They were using adjectives to describe
the whipping she was taking...horrible, embarrassing,...!
She deserved to lose. Waste of time.

I remember Sharapova getting double-bageled by Davenport . . . .

In women's power-tennis, if the one Big Babe is "on" and the other is
"off", the result is usually a debacle.

Not many "Plan B"s running around up at that level of the game.

it's telling how relatively infrequently serena plays in that about
1/3 of her total career titles are grand slam titles.

yes, and yet she's accomplished quite a bit. Her 4th AO title ties her
with 4 other women for most in the open era.

Now there's a stretch for a meaningless honor, since Margaret Court is one of
those four, but also won seven (7) more AO singles titles.

Remember, the Open Era is much less meaningful for the women, since they had no
significant pro options before the Open Era. Except some who didn't want to face
the travel, top women -- like Maria Bueno and BJK -- played the AO throughout
the sixties. The Open Era didn't change much in that regard, so there's no point
is considering Open Era women's titles any differently than earlier titles.

True, there was no pro option to draw away top players, but, it's no
accident that MC won 11 AO titles and just 3 W titles - lots of good
players couldn't afford the flight down to OZ.

Plus, the pro tour created a money incentive to participate in tennis
that was previously lacking. So the talent pool was greatly expanded.
Thus, it really isn't meaningful to compare the amateur-era achievements
with the open-era achievements. The latter are far more significant.

Why are people like Safina allowed to play slam finals nowadays?

Serena just said on TV that when she she was growing up she idolized
Steffi. I didn't know that. I'm beginning to like Serena.
