Subject: Six reasons why Boris Becker is GOAT
1) He played the toughest era ever. When he started his career, he had
to face *young/peak* Lendl, McEnroe, Wilander, Edberg. When he ended
his career, he had to face *young/peak* Sampras, Agassi, Stich

2) He was unbeatable in his *first* 20 matches in Wimbledon. Name
another guy with that amazing Wimbledon record!

3) His DC record is 38-3, the is the best DC record ever. Furthermore
he played a lot of titans in DC (not like Borg) and often destroyed
them. Ask Wilander for an example.

4) He had little discipline. He enjoyed sex, drugs and rock'n' roll,
but nethertheless he won a bunch of grand slams, YEC, davis cups and
was nearly unbeatable indoors.

5) Except for Agassi, who could read his service and the other GOAT
candidate Sampras, he owned all other players in H2H. 24-10 against
Edberg says a lot. Don't forget e.g. the 3-0 against Lendl in slam
finals or the high h2h leadings against McEnroe, Connoers, Wilander,
Courier etc..etc...

6) He was about 500 consequent weaks in the top 4, the biggest part
being at least #2.

This is a mattor of the viewpoint. There are still some people out
there who love their country and for them playing in a Davis Cup final
is the highest honor.

E.g. this is something Germany has never ever achieved after the era
Becker/Stich.

A what a show he was! Nobody had so many immortal classics (e.g. DC
against McEnroe, Agassi, Slam macthes against Edberg, YEC finals
against Lendl, Sampras) and nobody was ever so dangerous to come back
after being 0-2 in sets.

Becker was a fine player. I always supported him against Agassi/
Sampras/Edberg etc. He was just way too inconsistent to dominate the
game. Lendl made sure he never dominates the tour. Only after Lendl's
back gave up Becker and Edberg got to #1.

A GOAT who was #1 for lesser weeks than even Wilander... right.

We all know that some of Sampras Wimledons were gifted and most of
Federes. Furthermore Quincy is talking about the amazing record of
Boris Becker as a *teenager*.

That's not true! Becker spanked Edberg very badly in two different
Davis Cup finals. Now you will tell me that there was nothing at the
stake?!

You are partially right. This is a point where Becker actually has a
pathetic record. But this can be explained with Quincy's agrument #1:
Becker had the bad luck to face always some members of the HOF during
their peak (Lendl, Wilander, Edberg, Sampras, Agassi etc...)
Furthermore we know all about the wrong ranking system, e.g. in year
1989 where he was clearly the best player, good all rewards for
"player of the year" etc...etc.. but still was only #2.
Their have been plenty of players, on ATP and WTA who deserved less
being #1, but they were.

That is meaningless. Chang was easily better than Sampras as a junior but
we never remmeber him as a better tennis player than Sampras. Federer,
Agassi and Sampras did not get two wimbledon titles as Becker did when
they were 18 but they will be remembered as better player than Becker.

The stake is not as high as grand slam tounaments.

He was a better player than Lendl in 89 but he wasn't No.1 player long
enough to
warrant GOAT consideration even when he was playign in the tougher era.
Even
Edberg manage to stay at No.1 longer than Becker.

There you go one reason he could not be considered as GOAT, he trailed
Edberg in
Grand slam play 1 win against 3 losses. In Whisper's word Edberg was not
assed about
those small tournament victories. Edberg won more when there is more at the
stake.

Only had 12 weeks as No.1 even shorter reign than Wilander, Edberg and
Hewitt. so obviously
could not be considered as GOAT

Makes more sense than someone claiming Lendl was goat.
