Men side it it is gonna be Nadal/Djokovic/Federer. But women's side
seems open. I say Serena Williams has the best shot.

in the words of a former Serbian, "she's not a player, and never will
be". my original point was that these kinds of players, might be able
to get a win every now and then against someone in the top 10, but
they don't really have the game to dominate year-in year-out.
pennetta in particular is a 'nothing' sort of player. nice
strokes, does everything just ok but nothing great, no real weapons.
and there are dozens of these players out there- peer, szavay,
chakvetazdhe, radwanska etc..

Well, Safina did pretty well in H2 2008. Maybe she can keep it up.
How I wish Henin un-retires!

i'd very much someone new to break through. watching alize cornet
play flavia pennetta, and then azarenka and gajdosova, i thought that
there is currently such little depth (these players are all top 15) in
WTA.

unfortunately, there isn't anyone in the horizon, it's mostly a story
of comebacks this summer. good to see karatancheva, dokic, mauresmo
and even kimiko date try resurrect their careers, but none are likely
to be a threat.

if i had to hazard a guess, i would say Ivanovic to win over Serena in
a F/SF. i don't like her, but of all the current players in shape,
she's the only one with mental weapons to win.

Pennetta #13
Cornet #15
Azarenka #16
Gajdosova #98

Pennetta played very good tennis late last year, I think she can do
reasonably well at AO.

I am afraid I have to agree. Looks like Sharapova is not getting in
form in time.

Seems as reasonable a guess as any. Maybe Sharapova will be ready - with
any luck she'll have the first week to play herself into shape. Ivanovic
has a chance. Jankovic has a chance. And there's always
you-just-never-know Dementieva.

Don't say that. For how much longer do we need to endure the Williamses?

Why don't you predict the mens side? The only winner. Tough, no?
