Very good performance by Fed. Brilliant defense, less UEs than usual,
more solid backhand than against Seppi/Korolev. I think we maybe have to
go back to Shanghai 2007 to find a similar quality in Fed's game. What
do you guys think? To me this was better than USO 08.

PS.

He played great. Only Rafa can stop him in this form.

Really? I think this was solid, but not that great. USO 08 F and SF he
was better, also Wimbledon F. Didn't see much of his Masters Series
matches last year, but there must have been some good ones too.

So Federer's getting to the Final? Cool. I like his chances there. -

Safin is so ready to retire that he made Federer look good. ROTFL.
Murray is spanking Fed in the final.

You got to add...

Murray and Nadal will beat Fed. (obviously not both of them in this
tourney)

Murray and Nadal will return Federer's serve better than Safin.
Murray and Nadal won't serve than Safin's serving today.
Murray and Nadal will chase more balls than Safin and force Federer to
do more errors.
Federer should volley more against Nadal and Murray.

Time will show. I doubt that Nadal will serve any better than Safin
though. Yes, both Murray and Nadal will play with more consistency from
the baseline. But I think Federer's game today anyway seemed vastly
superior to his game for example in Doha, independent of his opponent
(to the extent such an analysis is possible).

Defense was maginificant. He was aggressive when he had to, but still
didn't overhit that much. He had his great moment in USO, but if he can
keep this level up it will be difficult to beat him. This was better
than all his 3rd round matches (or similar stage of the tournament) in
last year's slams.

Federer played well but it was rather easy against someone who played as
poorly as Safin.

Safin was guaranteed a loss, with his reduced mobility and the fact that
Federer would take him very, very seriously from the first ball.

Shanghai 2007 or 2006? In my personal opinion, Shanghai 2006/ AO 2007
were peak Federer.

Now I picked Shanghai 2007 because that was closer in time. I agree that
Shanghai 2006 and AO 2007 was even better. Better than his AO2009 level
also.
