I think anyone who loves tennis has to be pretty disgusted with
Federer right now. The crying wasn't bad enough but his comment that
"the better player doesn't always win the 5th set" is truly appalling.
He continually demonstrates poor sportsmanship and those of you who
are in love with him continue to excuse him.

With a 13-7 losing record to Nadal and having NEVER beaten Nadal in a
major final I don't know how anyone can claim that Nadal doesn't own
Federer.

I wouldn't have said a negative word about Federer if he had just
sucked it up like a man (I realize that would be hard for a closet
case like him) and let Nadal have the spotlight yesterday. But like a
true drama queen he just couldn't resist stealing the spotlight for
himself and pouring cold water on Nadal's victory. I'm sure in the
next few weeks we'll hear that he had a virus or something as well.
Always excuses. As for Nadal, as classless as Federer continues to be
the younger guy continues to show incredible grace while his opponent
descends into more and more needless drama.

You couldn't ask for a more humble champion than Rafa - he's such a
lovely kid & the game is fortunate to have someone so passionate about
the game & yet incredibly well behaved/great role model for kids. He's
the only one who stands up to him & gives 100% against the mighty Fed.
He was born to beat Federer.

Roger is one of the most apalling sportsmen I've ever come across. At
least Jimbo didn't pretend to be classy & a nice guy - Roger is a real
cunt wit his 2-faced attitude - 'Rafa is great he deserved it', & then
all that other shit later about him being the real no.1 & better player.
He's the spoilt rich kid who whines & cries when he doesn't get his own
way.

Yes, my mistake. You're right, I did forget that one already!!!! Let's
just say he hasn't beaten Nadal in their last 3 major finals ....

I don't care how bitter he felt after the loss. It doesn't excuse his
behavior. A true champ and man would have sucked it up (no pun
intended) and showed class in defeat. Many runners-up have done that
for decades. But Roger cannot manage it. Because he's an arrogant,
entitled drama queen. It's disgusting.

I agree on this. Federer shouldn't have said that. But this was a bitter
loss for him - probably the worst in his career, because he felt that
the match was in his hands, but he didn't manage the pressure.

Never beaten Nadal in a major final? Ehm... Federer beat Nadal two Wimby
finals in a row (2006, 2007). Forgotten already?

I agree that Rafa fans are disgusting but Federer fans are no better.

It was a huge disappointment for Federer and I do not blame him for
being down but he should have prepared for a possible loss. Tennis is
just a game. Sure, you make a lot of money but it is just another form
of entertainment to keep the masses from thinking about their
problems. Roddick lost to Federer a lot and he never let it get to
him, at least not that it showed. He was still #2 and when picked on
by the shit-head reporters, he asked them how they would like to be
the second best reporters in the world. Never show your pain in
public.

The French is probably Nadal's but Wimbledon is Federer's to lose. US
is another chance for Federer to make his mark. It is not over until
they retire. I see more great things in Nadal's and Federer's future.

It was a fantastic match and only mental midget gloat over Federer=92s
loss.

It's easy to win. A true champion and a true man shows who he is when
he loses. Sadly, Federer showed yesterday what a drama queen chump he
really is. I have never seen this from any other great champion in
tennis when losing as consistently as Federer has behaved like this.
He's an asshole.

Federer's competition was greater than Sampras? Give me a break. The
only time he's won a slam lately was when facing an inferior opponent
(Murray, Gonzalez). When he faces real competition (Nadal) he loses
every time.

Agreed. How would Roger feel if all his close wins were called 'lucky'
& the better player lost etc - eg 2007 Wimbledon win over Rafa.

Look I'm glad Roger is so passionate as it means he's 100% trying to
win, but his inability to give Rafa *unqualified* praise turns my stomach.

In fact, there was an "Oh no, hope he doesn't break down AGAIN!"
expression on her face as Fed started unravelling at the
microphone.
But those who gloat over his tears forget that he has cried more
often
after winning than losing - I remember him crying after his first
2 W
titles and also at AO accepting the trophy from Rod Laver 2-3
years ago.
Y'day was the first time he cried after a loss and those who saw
the
telecast will agree that he broke down when the "We love you,
Roger!"
shouts from the stands just wouldn't end. To know that you are so
admired and loved even in defeat must be very overwhelming.
Also, he cried at the AO 2-3 years ago more because the parents
of
his beloved coach late Peter Carter were in the stands than
because
he was meeting Rod Laver.

Well, she's a rock for sure which is why that relationship works. But
watch the 5-2 changeover in the 5th and you'll see them wiping their
eyes.
I believe that was the start of what was to follow.

All true but I do not gloat over Federer's misery. I find it a bit
discomforting to see him cry because he should be able to take his
losses just as others do. Tennis is a very brutal sport. Every day,
50% of those playing the game suffer defeat.

That is very true. I've been watching tennis for a long time and I've
never seen anyone unable to handle losing the way he has. Not that I
mind his emotional displays, but wow. The headlines today are all
reporting, Nadal wins over a sobbing Federer. This is really the first

I do believe he will never do this again after a loss, he'll run for
the locker room next time.

I noticed when watching the 5th set last night, at 5-2, he and Mirka
started to cry. Both were wiping their eyes during the changeover.

Are you sure? I have never seen Mirka cry. Federer cries when he wins

I don't think we can write off Murray at Wimbledon either. I don't
think he can win it because the pressure would
probably be too much. But I think he's a danger to anyone.

You really think so? Even John Alexander, who considers Fed goat, said
Rafa shoulda won Wimbledon 2007 as well as 2008. If just a few points
went the other way Rafa woulda won 2007 final 76 64 76 & 2008 final 64
64 63. I cannot see how Wimbledon is 'Roger's to lose', given Rafa is
coming into his peak.
