Subject: This is not going to be a walk in the park for Nadal
A straight set win over Gonzo was predictable. The guy had just played
a marathon the round before
and he's not that great a player anyway. Nadal's other matches were
against old Haas and a bunch of
people I've never heard of.

Simon should be a very tough match. I still think he'll come through,
but then it would likely be Tsonga.
If people think he's going to just roll over JW to get revenge from
last year, have a look at the scoreline from their
IW match a couple of months later. This guy has a huge serve and
forehand and things are a bit out of Rafa's control if he's on.

Then, it's almost surely Fed in the final. A straight set win over a
hungry Fed chasing Sampras' mark? Lunacy.

Even if he does, he won't waltz over Federer like some people think is
going to happen.

From what I saw Verdasco let Murray do most of the running and he
still looked pretty fit at the end of the match.

Shouldn't Verdasco be tired playing Tsonga?

++ Nothing reported about Nadal and his having any problem with his
knees... Simon will test them though... that's going to be a track
meet! Simon gets some tremendous angles on his shots... he'll have
Nadal moving... and BECAUSE Simon can't blow you off the court BUT CAN
keep in points with speed of foot and consistent hitting that match
might be a LONG one... Rafa will be looking to take ALL of his
openings to close out key games cause he doesn't want to have to hang
around for 4 hours with Simon... Simon *might* be Djokovic/Fed/Del
Porto's best friend right now... :)

++ That's a GREAT point TT... time of match will be a major factor for
JWT... and Verdasco proved even getting a beat down in one set doesn't
discourage him... he looked like a believer out there against
Murray... OF COURSE if JWT's serving is on it could be rough on
Verdasco... and you can't run around JWT's shots like you can Murray's
because Murray is striking a LOT more percentage forehands/shots and
JWT's balls will be coming in hard and pacey...

You're will probably look rather silly in retrospect. Nadal may do some
great things this year. Even if he wouldn't win AO he really looks even
better than last year.

And he did win a doubles title already. And if he somehow wouldn't win
an early year hc title he certainly will take that back during
clay-grass season you silly silly silly.

Nadal peaked already last year. Even the lizards under a rock in the

Tsonga would be very tough. He looks to be back on last year's AO form.
Hitting and serving heavy.

However I think Tsonga might lose to Verdasco...because it will probably
be played at 3pm and will be very hot and imo Tsonga doesn't cope that
well with heat.

Yeap. Simon's flat deflection backhand off high balls is really
good. This troubled Nadal immensely in their last match.

Simon doesn't have big power, but he uses the hard court to his
advantage and makes the ball skid. He
was getting plenty of balls past Monfils and Gael moves just as well
as Nadal.

Nadal would have to play incredibly well to beat Simon in straights,
imo.

simon has no power so won't threaten nadal. if tsonga makes the semi
and the same guy from last year turns up then the result will be the
same - but expectations will be higher to tsonga might get tight.
djokovic/federer would be favourite over nadal int he final.
