very little to no leg drive at all. + his forehand technique looks a
little shaky on the run, he kind of "swipes" at it. Has a long time to
work at it though.

Yep. I actually checked Kontinen's status after I wrote here about
him.

Tomic appears to have improved a lot since last summer.

He looked awful at Wimb Junior match (SF against Kontinen FIN).
Especially his footwork was really lousy. Based on that Wimb match I
really did not expect him winning 1R match at AO....nor anything big
ever...

Kontinen looked very promising at that Wimb match ....he is 2y older
than Tomic and yet still ranked 1818....;)...injuries or not....I am a
bit puzzled how Kontinen has not been able to turn that form into
ranking points at Futures/Challengers.

Hey, you haven't been reading my posts. Or my articles in the web :-)

I mentioned all that here yesterday. And also why he hasn't done
anything since USO. He had a problem with the wrist (I am not a doctor
so I won't go to details, but it could have been a career-ending
injury, if they hadn't noticed it in time). So he has been out of
tournaments since early October. Only started hitting two weeks ago.
(Thursday Jan 8 actually :-)) Hopefully will be able to enter
tournaments in February.

Tennis isn't always about the strokes - the mind & playing right shot
for the moment are far more critical. Some of the greatest golfers ever
have had terrible swings.

Tennis is the same. You can take 2 players, one who's been coached the
correct way & looks a million bucks technically & another who has rough,
self-made strokes & the rough guy wins 61 62.

That's because he's grown a foot in last couple years & hasn't adjusted
his strokes for the extra height - common with all juniors.

His serve will be a monster pretty soon.

what i should have said is that i am amazed he can hit it that hard
with that action of his... he def has it in him for another 25%+ more
power if he can use his whole body more + as he get bigger +
stronger...

and it can get up to close to 190ish K now.
