Very bad, bad serve, bad forehand, etc.

Spot on. There wasn't anything wrong with Federer except Berdych
cleaning the lines at full power and doing a good job of not letting
Federer play his game. No way to get rhythm in such a situation so
Federer started to look tentative and Berdych rightly took the lead in
the match and had his man on the ropes.

Great effort from both players, great match. Many incredible forehands
by Berdych. That was probably the best I've seen him play. His inside
out forehands were unstoppable at times, even while Fed was moving
great defensively.

As the match went on Federer slowly cut down unforced errors and got
more first serves in, leading to more winners. Berdych obviously must
have felt the match slipping away, which is the worst feeling, as Fed
knows full well.

Nice rhythm now for Federer moving forward into the next week. As you
rightly point out; this will get him more confident and more active.
Federer looked to be moving fine throughout the match and will have
the confidence required to take on the top guys.

He hates playing during the hot day. If he could have all night matches,
he's win.

I don't think that is the problem and I think Federer took this match to
easily and believe
this will be another routine victory for him. Federer has not previously
lost to Berdych in
any of the slams matches and losing just 1 set in the last 7 matches.
Berdych obviously had
a plan and his weak forehand was working pretty well and he step in on some
of Federer's
second serves and cracked them for winners. I think this match will do him
a lot of good
specially not to take any player lightly specially his next match is against
another young gun
Del Potro and I think we will see a different Federer in the next match.
One that will be
pro-active rather than reactive.

Look at Berdych. He is starting to look like a red beet.

the funny thing is that Federer is returning the serve nicely, after
that he finds a way to lose the point.
