++ I know we pick on his weight BUT man did he look blocky/wide out
there... it's his build I know... and yet... it looked like playing in
the extreme weather was much more of a natural element for Lu than for
Nalby... Lu was making Nalby run when ever he could going wide with
the forehand repeatedly... and certainly Nalby was uncomfortable
because he wasn't getting the raw pace he likes to hit off of so he
had to go for a bit more on his decisive groundies and that had his
timing off... Lu was playing with concentration and JOY out there...
over the last set and a bit that was an advantage mentally, for
sure...

ESPN showed a shot of Nalbandian's belly and had a discussion of whether
he should have had Dunkin Donuts patch on him.

They were cruel but right on the mark.

I have a friend who works in Argentina a lot, near the area where Nalbandian
lives. Word on the street is that the guy lives the good life, then takes is
seriously for a couple of months to make bank for the next year.

Of course, this is Nth-hand information, so take it with a rock of salt.

Things could be worse - you could have picked Nalby to make the final
in the prediction competition :-) All I can say is - what the hell was
I thinking?

In my defence though I thought that there might be a finalist outside
of the top 4. Murray or Nadal looked a certainty, and with Djokovic's
uncertain start to the year and Federer's patchy form the bottom half
looked more likely. Dave had a shocker here last year so the law of
averages suggested a good run this time.

Shoulda known better ...

Nalbandian shouldn't have played the week before. I think he doesn't
have the physic to play even two weeks in a row. Not in a des(s)ert
condition anyway.

Now, missed the main dish again so he'll get back to desserts I guess.

Did anyone see this match? Before the tournament, Nalbandian appeared
to be poised for a good run. Playing well, healthy, little pressure
since he was not one of the designated favorites. This is his worst AO
defeat ever and certainly one of his most embarrassing losses. Sad.

Nalby has never been much of a player. Don't confuse the odd good win
with quality skill.

Yes, I saw a couple of sets. The main issue that I saw was that Nalbandian
was self-destructing out there (constantly talking to himself and waving his
hands even after winning points). It was an error-fest for sure, but
overall pretty enjoyable. From what I saw, Lu had the mental edge and that
probably won him the match. From a technical standpoint they seemed pretty
even, and both players produced some exciting points when not making UEs.
