Subject: Counting the four biggest events of the year

Before AO switched to rebound ace (synthesized rubber) in 1988, the YEC
was the 4th biggest event following Wim, USO and FO.

So keeping this in mind....The open era slam tally for top 5 players of
Open era is....
1=2E Pete Sampras --- 14 slams
2=2E Bjorn Borg and Ivan Lendl --- 13 slams (BB:11 slams + 2 YEC, IL:8
slams + 5 YEC)
4=2E John Mcenroe --- 10 slams (JM:7 slams + 3 YEC)
5=2E Roger Federer --- 9 slams

1=2E Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova --- 23 slams (SG:22 slams + 1
YEC, MN:15 slams + 8 YEC)
2=2E Chris Evert --- 20 slams (CE:16 slams + 4 YEC)
3=2E Margaret Court --- 13 slams
4=2E Monica Seles and Evonne Goolagong) --- 9 slams (EG:7 slams + 2 YEC)

Here are winner of YEC until 1987.
1987 Ivan Lendl

1987 Steffi Graf
1986 Martina Navr=E1tilov=E1
1986 Martina Navr=E1tilov=E1
1985 Martina Navr=E1tilov=E1
1984 Martina Navr=E1tilov=E1
1983 Martina Navr=E1tilov=E1
1982 Sylvia Hanika
1981 Martina Navr=E1tilov=E1
1980 Tracy Austin
1979 Martina Navr=E1tilov=E1
1978 Martina Navr=E1tilov=E1
1977 Chris Evert
1976 Evonne Goolagong

Ok, you can call it more important in that days than the Australian Open.
And that would suit Lendl.
But if you do that, you should also respect Wimbledon as clearly no 1 in
these days. And that wouldn't suit Lendl.
