6-3, 2-6, 7-6? Against Schrichapan? That should be enough for you.

What about Hewitt d Sampras 7-6 6-1 6-1 after Sampras beat Agassi, Safin
& Rafter, & being 30 yrs old?

Vari says it's preposterous to suggest Sampras was tired, so that means
no chance for Fed in this bo3 tune-up v journeymen...

Shittypan played well. Nothing in Federer's performance indicates tiredness.

Seems silly of Groundie to question visual evidence for a 3 set match
that could be seen in its entirety.

Just in case you don't know, Groundie is a troll.

Your views on Sampras top any Groundie trolling by a big margin....

Its not an excuse. Its what you can see on court. Irrespective of
whether he is winning or losing, he looks tired on court. Will be good
if he can skip Paris and concentrate on YEC.

Nope - Vari said Sampras wasn't tired in '01 USO final, & Fed is 6 yrs
younger & it's only bo3. Vari will back me up here too.

Yes, but - tired or not - Federer actually *won* the match. :)

What? GroundAxe complaining about people setting up excuses pre-match?

So now we have an excuse all ready should a player manage to beat him
there. Paris is a mandatory event.

I think he should pull out of Paris - he looked tired in the second set
today.

Is the final best of 3 or 5 sets?

Best of 5 traditionally

Wait, wait. I'm sorry. Are you comparing 2-time Slam champion Hewitt to
Schrichapan? And are you also comparing the US Open to a *really*
meaningless tune-up? Gee, that's great - you have about as much
consistency as the Sampras backhand.

I guarantee you that were this the US Open, Federer would have probably
been a hell of a lot more "up" for the match.

Yeah with the minor exception that..you know...Federer's been having a
match virtually everyday for 2 weeks now and he came up against a
journeyman basically playing the match of his life.

Lame. Where was sampras in his career at age 30...?

Wow you admitted that an opponent of Federer's played well. That is
definite progress, even though just a little while ago you were
complaining about him choking in the tie-break or some such shit. Not
to mention that, while fatigue can affect stats, stats do not
necessarily reflect fatigue. And had you actually watched the match,
you would have noticed signs of tiredness.

How many matches did Sampras play in which it was obvious that he was
barely standing on his feet, but where he kept serving up ace after ace
and blasting winner after winner? Quite a few.

You should go out and actually play the game at some point, you know?

Yes, Schrichapan played very well. However, Federer looked tired (by
looking at his face).

Still winning slams, interestingly enough. Not to mention that his
playing style - and average length of points - lead to far less
physical exhertion than Federer's.

I think he will beat Gonzo and depending on how tough a match it is,
he may well withdraw from Paris. He's got two days to recover, and
he'll probably play late on Weds, but I don't think he'll sacrifice a
good run at the YEC for the sake of Paris.

Earlier in the week, his draw didn't look tough at all, but I was
surprised yesterday by how jaded he appeared against Srichaphan.
Perhaps he's been doing a Safin and partying with his pals in Basle?

He apparently mentioned in his SF interview that he had better get to
bed early to rest up for the final. So you may be on the right track.

I think that could be it. Visiting a lot of friends and family and not
getting enough sleep !
