The match I thought would be the match of the day is proving to be a damper. Henin is looking sharp and comprehensively outplaying Hingis. The difference in pace of shot is huge, considering that Henin is shorter than Hingis. Hingis may have imagination in her shotmaking, but she lacks the athleticism and sting in her shots that Federer has. And while I do not like Henin: OH THAT BACKHAND!!! I am pulling for her to win the YEC over Sharapova. At least her game is much more watchable than Pova's.

Is it me or does Hingis tend to do this a lot? She starts out badly, forces a third set in what appears to be a comeback, and then succumbs ridiculously in the third, making the effort of the second set seem wasted. Why even bother fighting for the second set just to give up in the third? Is it lack of endurance? I have seen her complain in the last 4 months of playing too much tennis, but I'd venture to guess she's not playing enough, if anything. AndyNYC

Not enough power to force the action and not enough serve to hold comfortably. Holding serve only 3 times out of 12 service games is pitiful. If she can't add a few mph to her serve in this off-season, she is going to have a hard time of it next year. -- Cheers, vc
