Haas doesn't finish the semi... I am almost feeling bad for the tournament directors at this point (OK not really)...what a disastrous tournament this year...and I have such great coverage on TTC... all for naught...

I know he obviously was never going to play it this year or ever again, but he hadn't played it since 2002 and that was the only time he played it since 1999. Basically there's no reason to play it once you've qualified for YEC or have no realistic chance to finish EOYR No.1.

I love the event in Paris, especially during the 90s, when players like Lendl, Edberg and Becker supported it. But it's obvious these days that the top players are too secure in their rankings position to give Paris more than an afterthought. Their spots are secure for the year, so why play when the bigger prize of the Masters Cup is just around the corner? I think Madrid or Paris needs to be cut. Paris has a stronger history than Madrid, which of course used to be Stuttgart. I would cut Madrid and bump Paris up a week. Some might argue Paris already has Roland Garros, but I still think it's the better event -- yes, even despite the ball girls in Madrid. I say all of this from a traditionalist POV, despite loving the energy and stadium in Madrid. At this point, Paris is a joke. Federer and Nadal haven't played the last two years. And most of the other elite top players haven't, either. Dave

Good for Blake though. -- Cheers, vc
